Description
The work of Angelos Antonopoulos “builds” on the use of pre-existing objects. This is not always obvious because the artist intervenes in extremely detailed and deconstructive ways on the primary object. The dominant patterns of his work seem to be the lost childhood, the iconography of Faith and the artistic process as enigmatic construction. Between the objects that he finds (object trouves) very frequent are plastic dolls, that sometimes processes discretely and sometimes destroys them. Other times he uses oddly “ready made” elements like a precise copy of the Charioteer of Delphi (according to scale) and books-objects, encyclopedias, guides for anatomy, the New Testament, which he dissects and engages with three dimensional objects.
